THE BIRTH OF TIGBAUAN ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA
HOW DID WE COME ABOUT ?
November 14, 1987
When Father Eleuterio Carton, parish priest
of Tigbauan, came to Los Angeles, California
in November 1987, he asked Larry Tueres to
contact some Tigbauenos in order to raise
funds for the church. Although new-comers
in Los Angeles, having moved from Chicago,
Illinois, Larry and Chita were able to contact
some townfolks to gather at their residence.
It was in this meeting that the formation of the
Tigbauan Association of California was con-
ceived.
Those who attended were just a handful, but
they were never so few in their resolve to
organize an association of Tigbauenos in Ca-
lifornia. Inspired by this commitment, the mem-
bers took turns to hold a series of parties:
once again at Larry's residence in Thousand
Oaks; next at Luis Teruel Gonzales' in Oxnard;
and later at Marilou Sia Yap's house in Norwalk.
These parties provided the golden opportunity
to hold meetings about the association in an
atmosohere of good fellowship and harmony.
Another of these parties was the one held on
January 17, 1988 at Junior Trofeo's residence
in La Puente, California. The occasion was the
celebration of the Tigbauan town fiesta in honor
of the miraculous Santo Nino. It was providen-
tial that during this occasion, the Tigbauan Asso-
ciation of California was formally launched.
Proclaimed officers were Fermin Trofeo, Jr.,
President, Larry Tueres, Vice President, Mari-
lou Sia Yap, Secretary-Treasurer, and Chita
Tenefrancia Tueres, Auditor. They will be induc-
ted to the office during an induction ceremony
to be held on May 29, 1988 at the Sheraton Ho-
tel in the City of Industry, California.
It is about time that an association of Tigbauenos
is formed abroad. There is a growing number of
Tigbauenos in the United States, Canada and
Europe. If each one will join, the Tigbauenos
can form a potent group not only in California
but also all over the world. It is the objective
of the Association of California to undertake
socio-civic projects for the good of our town
and to pursue these activities on a grander
scale under the aegis of the Tigbauan Circulo
International.
